Sarah Kobrinsky

If you look closely enough—
through a magnifying glass, perhaps,
or under a microscope—you will see,
from the uncertainty of the letters
inside these painstakingly selected words,
this poem was not written by me.

Muscles it out of the pan
impatiently, a sharp ache
surfaces in her smile,
the corners of her mouth
crack as she takes a bite.
Her heart tilts on its axis.
The floor trembles—
something from Brahms.
That bastard, she sighs,
then nothing but crumbs.
