Submission Guidelines

Hi all! Welcome to the Eleven Eleven submissions page. We’ll be reading submissions for issue 23 from Jaunuary 14-30, or until we hit 200 submissions, whichever comes first.

With the exception of submissions from writers who are incarcerated, or publishers wishing to send us review copies, we no longer accept postal submissions.

Our mailing address is:

Our Guidelines

Eleven Eleven welcomes daring and insightful submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, art and literary criticism and drama. We love translations and writing from outside the US. We also love recovery projects (archival work that draws attention to writers who may have fallen off the map – query us beforehand!).

We publish a lot of visual art, but we’re not set up to receive them through the submission manager – send jpegs to elevenelevenjournal (at) gmail.com. For initial consideration, 72 dpi will do, but if accepted we’ll need 300 dpi images. For the print issue we’re especially looking for strong black and white art.

One submission per genre per reading period. If you have five short shorts you want to send, don’t make five submissions! Bundle them into one submission.

Please include a short note with your submission – tell us about yourself! Feel free to include a brief synopsis of your writing practice or creative process information regarding the submitted work(s).

We prefer work in .doc or .docx formats, but will consider pdfs if the visual nature of the work requires it.

Please include your name in the header of your submission.

For prose: please limit your submission to 7,000 words total. We are especially interested in fabulist, interstitial and/or experimental prose. We’re open to excerpts of longer works as well.

For poetry: please limit your submission to five poems or 10 pages, but we’re also open to long poems. Send multiple poems as a single submission.

For drama: 20 pages or less; we’re also open to excerpts of longer plays.
